Minneapolis: City Hotels and Accommodation

The area's largest concentration of hotels lies in the heart of Minneapolis, which is approximately 16 miles / 26 km north of Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Many additional hotels can also be found in nearby St. Paul, which is located around 12 miles / 19 km north of the airport. Both cities feature seasonal fluctuations in price, with the winter months tending to be amongst the cheapest.

Demand also influences the region's hotel rates, particularly during seasonal events. Popular festivals in the area include the St. Paul Winter Carnival in January, the International Film Festival in April, the Minneapolis Aquatennial each July, and the Fringe Festival in August, all of which attract large crowds, quickly filling nearby hotels. Accommodation can be found in plentiful supply throughout the following districts.

Downtown District
The hub of the city, downtown Minneapolis contains large numbers of hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and eye-catching high-rise buildings. With so much to see and do in this part of the city, hotels in the downtown district remain busy throughout the year. Further accommodation in this district includes a number of self-catering apartments and small guest houses.

Dinkytown District
Much of the accommodation in Dinkytown is centered around the University of Minnesota. With a lively nightlife attracting a predominantly young crowd, this area of Minneapolis is fairly small and popular with both locals and visitors to the city.

Linden Hills District
Featuring a range of live-music venues and seasonal concerts, Linden Hills contains many notable, historic buildings. Often close to the district's hotels and the nearby lakeside area, many excellent restaurants also reside in this Minneapolis district, together with scenic walking trails and recreational activities.

Loring Park District
A mainly residential area of Minneapolis, Loring Park is situated in the city's surrounding suburbs and contains a number of notable, family run B&Bs, guest houses and small hotels. Accommodation in this neighborhood is generally inexpensive and can become fully booked during the district's enormous LGBT Pride Festival, which is held each year during June.

Riverfront District
Steeped in history, riverside hotels and restaurants are particularly appealing in this attractive district. Many of the most popular hotels in the Minneapolis Riverfront area offer scenic views and are often close to the Heritage Trail and the Mill City Museum, amongst other cultural attractions.

Uptown District
A particularly vibrant part of the city, Uptown Minneapolis lies close to the downtown area and is full of energy. The area's numerous bars, clubs and restaurants come alive as nighttime approaches, with a large selection of mid-range hotels never far away.
