Formerly the local Snelling Speedway, the Minneapolis St Paul Airport of today began its life in 1914, when it was soon to become known as the Speedway Field, covering around 160 acres / 65 hectares. In 1920, the very first hangar was built and in 1921, the airfield was renamed as the Wold-Chamberlain Field, honoring two local pilots in World War I. In 1948, its name changed once more, becoming the Minneapolis St Paul International Airport (MSP).
